Youth Stamp Clubs & Activities

*YOUNG STAMP COLLECTORS NEEDED*

We do not hear a lot about Youth Stamp Clubs in our Federation and we know that there are some out there, flourishing and possibly in need of some help.

If you run a Stamp Club at a school; or youth centre or Scout / Guide group or anywhere else, please let either Mr Adrian Jones or me know where you are and what are your most urgent needs and we will try to help you.  We have a stock-list of philatelic items that can be obtained FREE OF CHARGE (Postage would be appreciated of course), all you have to do is write and make your request.  COPIES OF THIS STOCK-LIST CAN BE HAD ON REQUEST.

We have a series of leaflets designed to help you with your club, some Postal Museum postcards and some packets of stamps to ‘soak-off’. ALL WE WANT IS REQUEST FROM YOU.  This material is all FREE, just give us the postage.

Club Secretaries, we know that you are doing the work of at least 10 men and no time off for good behaviour; nevertheless would you ask your members if they have any surplus material that they would be willing to give to a youth stamp club?  Stamps, covers. albums, album leaves, hinges etc but most of all, can anyone spare the time to help or to even organise a youth stamp club?  If we want our hobby to continue, it is the youngsters of today who will be the backbone of YOUR society tomorrow  Remember when you were a youngster and the family received a foreign letter, you probably could’nt wait to collect the stamp for your collection – things have’nt changed that much except that there are fewer stamp-shops on the High Street now.

As a Federation we operate and organise competitions for youth but we want more members competing.  The entries are all displayed at the Annual Convention and as well as the trophies, we try to offer other gifts and prizes as well.

There is a very good web-site dedicated to youth stamp collectors so why not log-on to www.planetstamp.co.uk , this site is updated regularly and is aimed at the young collector.  Don’t bother trying to work out how to get there, the children will be far more skilful at logging-on than you or I !!!

N.B.  We want more youth stamp clubs, helpers and material.  You and your society can help with all these.  At present help is more important than money but naturally we will never turn a contribution away.   The N.W.Federation has already made cash donations of £50 to two school groups and would like to do more.
