The Philatelists remain very ‘hinged’ on TV Programme

A team of philatelists is expected to appear on BBC 2 in May or June this year in an edition of the quiz programme “ Eggheads”. It is usually broadcast at 6pm on Mondays to Fridays.

Under the team name ‘‘The Philatelists’’, the UK philatelic movement was represented on the morning of Wednesday 28th January 2009 in filming at the BBC TV studios at White City, London. They would have loved to have entered under the name of ‘’Unhinged’’, but believed that this might well have given an incorrect image of philatelists to the Great British Public.

The team of Mike Brindle, Barry Feltham, John Baron, Colin Searle, and team captain Dane Garrod, had most enjoyable head-to-heads with “The Eggheads”, the regular team which includes champions of Mastermind, Brain of Britain, and ‘Millionaire’.  How they fared has to be kept secret until the programme is shown, probably in May or June.  However, the “Philatelist” team members say they acquitted themselves well, and enjoyed studio banter for which they hope some, if not most, will be retained for the edited 30-minute programme.

Pat Reid was the sixth member and reserve, and took a range of photographs on set that will serve as a reminder, of the encounter. The date and details of the transmission will be announced later.
